July 5, 2017 - ShadeScapes Americas has been named a 2017 Colorado Company to Watch. The award acknowledges the drive, excellence and influence of ShadeScapes Americas as a growing company developing valuable products and services, creating quality jobs, enabling new industries and enriching the community. Colorado Companies to Watch is a public-private partnership advocating for small business development in the state. The 50 second stage companies recognized each year make an astounding impact by collectively providing thousands of jobs and contributing millions of dollars in revenue to the Colorado economy.

Nancy Murphy, director of Small Business Development (Region 10) of the West Central SBDC Montrose office, nominated ShadeScapes for the award. ShadeScapes staff attended the Winner’s Gala at the Denver Marriott City Center on the evening of Friday, June 23. Besides ShadeScapes team and family members, business partners attended the ceremony, including Trish Thibodo, director of Delta County Economic Development; John Angelo of Angelo Advisors; and Don Foster, who designed the ShadeScapes building redesign. Lieutenant Governor Donna Lynne was one of the presenters and there were over 700 enthusiastic attendees.

“It’s both energizing and gratifying to be selected as one of the top small businesses in Colorado,” said Jo Edmondson, founder and CEO of ShadeScapes Americas. “For 15 years, we have been pioneers in the internet and outdoor design businesses — and we did it in small town Colorado. We are excited to celebrate this honor with our partners and community.”

“We are pleased to recognize ShadeScapes Americas as one of Colorado’s 50 most innovative second stage companies,” says Rick Ninneman, Colorado Companies to Watch board chairman. “These companies contribute significantly to the growth and economic independence of the state by developing new services and products, creating jobs, enriching communities and generating new industries.”

ShadeScapes was the only Delta County business that won the award this year; Montrose County is home to three award winners and Mesa County is home to four award winners. A full list of winning businesses can be found at www.ColoradoCompaniesToWatch.org.

For 15 years, ShadeScapes Americas has been at the forefront of outdoor design by bringing beautifully crafted, architectural-grade umbrellas, cabanas and modern furniture to North America. From Belgium to South Africa, Quebec to Germany, ShadeScapes partners with international manufacturers to serve design professionals, businesses and residential buyers.

With a web-based model that delivers stunning visuals, detailed product information and professional advice, ShadeScapes helps clients design extraordinary outdoor spaces. As part of celebrating the Colorado Companies to Watch award, ShadeScapes is planning pop-up showroom events in Denver and Aspen in late September. Locally, you can visit their repurposed loft-style office-showroom in the picturesque North Fork Valley on Bridge Street in Hotchkiss.

Colorado Companies to Watch is an awards program honoring second-stage companies headquartered in the state of Colorado. The 450 companies that have been honored since the program’s inception demonstrate high performance in the marketplace or exhibit innovative products or processes. The program is designed to seek businesses from a wide range of industries throughout the state, not just the major metropolitan areas. The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) launched the program in 2009 in conjunction with the Edward Lowe Foundation and valuable community partners from across Colorado.
